Sofa Dreams

“I want a new sofa.” I’ve said this to my husband many times for over a year. Then we don’t have any money to buy one and I forget needing a new sofa… for a while. Our current sofa is fine, it’s neutral colored and in good condition and it can sleep two people. BUT it’s not very comfortable.

Grey sofa in black and white living room

Believe it or not, this sofa is almost ten years old. Really, it is. And I believe it’s in such a good condition now because no one ever sits in it. Except maybe when we have guests. So I believe we need a new sofa, a more comfortable one, one that we can lounge on and read a book or something. And because we’re poor students and don’t have a lot of money to buy a sofa, our only option is to buy it from Ikea. I’ve been thinking four different options:

Söderhamn, cream white, three seater

Ektorp, white slipcover, two seater

Karlstad sofa, white slipcover, two seater

Karlstad, white long slipcover

This last one is what I probably want the most, but sadly the cover is not available in Finland. But I thought I could buy fabric and make the long cover myself if I want to… :)

We will buy a smaller two seater sofa instead of a three seater so that it fits in our living room. It’s just hard to decide… Which one would you choose?

    Hello

I’d go for the first one or the the third one. The legs of both the sofas open up the area of the room to a certain extent which creates the illusion of more ground cover. I also like the empty area underneath the couch for a suitably sized vintage case that can be stored there to create more storage. If that doesn’t work out so well for the third couch, a slip on cover will conceal the flaw. Personally i love the first one. It seats two people comfortably which is good but the great thing is that its very communal: Its convenient to squeeze all your girls without one feeling left out. I could also use it as a day bed depending on size.

Thank you Gugu, I never thought of how the open space under the sofa would make the room appear larger. But you’re probably right, good point! :) I also like the first one a lot, but my husband wants the sofa to have armrests, he thinks it’s much more comfortable that way. But without the armrests the sofa seats more people and appears larger… Difficult! :)
