Hammered Brass Lamp Makeover

About a week ago I showed my beautiful hammered brass lamp that I bought for 15 euros. Well, it has now been polished and given a new shade. Here is the picture of the before:

And here’s the lamp the way it looks now:

I bought a black shade for 9,95 euros and polished and scrubbed and polished a bit more… and I think the end result looks amazing!

What a find | Hammered Brass Lamp

Last sunday I bought this…

… for 15 euros from a flea market. I was told that it was bought from a street market somewhere in the Middle East in the early 80′s. I love this lamp! Now it will need some good polishing and a shade… I’m thinking of a black one. I will show it when it’s ready!

Quick And Easy Candleholder Makeover

We’ve had two of these candleholders for a while, but I never displayed them in any way because I didn’t like the way they looked. But because they were inherited, we didn’t want to get rid of them either. Easy Candleholder Makeover

It was those hanging crystals that i didn’t like. So, one day I was cleaning our kitchen cabinets and I came across these and suddenly I knew just what to do with them. One closer look told me that all the pieces in the candleholder were separate and attached with one screw. It took about a minute to remove the part with the hanging crystals and this is the end result:

They look so much better now! The best thing is, that this makeover is not permanent: I can always put those blingy things back if I want to (I won’t though, not in a long time at least..). It’s nice to actually use them now and not hide them in the kitchen cabinet.

This was my floor lamp before. It had an ugly yellowish gold color and a shade that didn’t look good. I came across a method to make brass look like chrome and decided to give it a try. The basic idea is to use a strong chemical with steel wool and scrub the gold layer away. The end result is a piece that looks like chrome because the metal color under the brass layer is revealed. Here’s my results:
