Mirror

Mirror, Mirror…

The long search is over: I finally found the perfect mirror for our entry!

Old wooden mirror in entry

It’s old and worn, the perfect color and just the right size. It’s so old that even the backside is solid wood! I believe it was once attached to a vanity, because it has holes on each side. I found it while we were touring different thrift stores in Tampere. This was the first thing I saw when I entered the room… And the best part: it only cost 22 euros! I think it was so cheap because somewhere along the way someone had attached an ugly pineapple transfer sticker to the glass (?!?). But I was able to remove it with a bit of paint stripper and scraping (phew!).

Round Wood Stick Mirror

I’ve wanted to make a round mirror or a sunburst mirror for a while now. I had a round mirror that I wanted to use so I bought a huge bag of wood fire starter sticks. The 5 kg bag was more than I need but for 6 euros it wasn’t an expensive purchase. I can always think more wood stick projects… :)

I searched the internet to find inspiration and this wood shim mirror from Addicted2Decorating was exactly the kind I wanted to make:

I followed the instructions: cut the sticks smaller, clued them to the base and cut the round shape. The mirror ended up being about 50cm diameter, just the right size to add above our bed. I stained it black and it turned out perfectly! Here it is finished:
